There are always lots of articles out there about woman being taken advantage of financially by men when dating either online or off. Choronicle Live has an article about a woman who tricked men in giving her money through all sorts of schemes, including dying of cancer and marriage. She also ripped off their bank accounts and credit cards to the tune of over $500,000 US.
According to the article, "She posed as a super-rich business woman stricken with cancer and desperate for a husband before she died, luring her lovers with the promise of fabulous cars, luxury holidays, and executive homes.".
Yikes, looks like we all (men and woman) have to be careful when going on dates!

ktla.com has an article regarding a pedophile in LA using an online dating site to try to meet single moms with kids (direct violation of his probation). No harm came of it as a child advocacy group was keeping an eye on him and notified authorities. This could have easily happened in any other environment (like bars, etc..) though I feel it is easier to spoof your appearance and profile online. Single Parents have to be so careful these days. |

Do you have a greater chance of getting divorced if you hooked up with your partner through an online dating services? This ABC News Article attempts to answer the question.
After 10 years since the conception of online dating, the article basically states it is too early to tell. I doubt this, you could at least get an idea where things are heading with 10 years worth of data. The problem is no one has published any statistics that would answer this question. It is still a good read since ABC News mention sites like eHarmony that have new services, such as eHarmony Marriage and the Relationship Lab that is attempting to help couples solve there problems online. Another major dating service called Match.com has partnered with Dr. Phil to include helpful relationship advice for both meeting up with singles and keeping the relationship together.
One other interesting point was mentioned about people using dating sites to have Online Affairs. Some divorce lawyers have found close to 20% of their cases deal with the spouse having an affair that was the result of them using an online dating service. |

Mark Brooks of Online Personals Watch is going to test the response time of online dating sites customer service. I'm interested to see the results!
Hornstein Associates tested the online customer service of large companies like Microsoft, Apple and Wal-Mart. They sent an email asking
"What is your corporate policy regarding the turnaround time for e-mails addressed to customer service?"
and found that only half responded and only 33% responed within 24 hours. When Hornstein Associates did this same test five years ago more than 86% companies responded with 63% responding in 24 hours.
I wonder how Online Dating Services will fair? |

Whoa, it has been a while since I have posted. Sorry for that. Life kind of took over for a while but I'm back now.
So what has been happening lately in the news? Lets see...
First thing is, it looks like Lavalife has ditched the credit system in favor of monthly subscription rates. Not many sites use credits anymore, I guess singles prefer a completely open dating service for a monthly few rather than using credits to do everything from emailing to chatting. I figure Lavalife must of been hurting a bit in members for them to make such a big change. I had decided not to put a Lavalife review up since I wasn't the biggest fan of them before. Maybe I should check there site again?
It also looks like another dating service has switch from a paying site to a free site. HotorNot.com became the second largest free dating service by doing this (after PlentyofFish.com). I'm not sure how they will keep up customer service by switching to free since there income source is greatly reduce (they now show more ads on their site to generate Income). You are going to see a lot more fake profiles on this site now. I'm not a huge fan of these type of sites anyways. To superficial for me.
Well I have to go, but I will be posting again soon...

Well it looks like a woman in Florida fell for another Nigerian Scam Artist. A surprising twist here is instead of the usual scam, asking for money to be sent to them (to usually pay for "medical bills" or a "trip" to the US). The crook had started having packages sent to her house and had then asked her to forward them on too him. Police soon caught wind of this since she was unknowingly sending him stolen goods. Most of the items she was sending him was household items like ceiling fans and jewelry.
I'm surprise people still trust anyone who says they are in Africa after all the publicity this past year on Nigerian Scam Artists (and I am not sure why they all seem to be from Nigeria). I also find it interesting that it seems most of these crooks are male preying on females. I wonder if men who have been scammed are too embarrassed to come forward? |

National Geographic Magazine has an interesting page in this months magazine. It's a large map of the United States showing most major cities. Depending on the size and color of the dot that marks the city, it specifies if there are more single men then woman.
In large western urban areas there are definitely more single men than woman, while in the east there are more single females than males (with few exceptions). In a large number of cases there is 40,000 more singles of a particular gender living in these cities. In New York alone, there are 185,000 more single females (I sense a lot of single men thinking of moving somewhere ;-).
For more details, check out the map in this months (Feb, 2007) National Geographic Magazine. |

 Happy Belated New Year!
I was surfing the net yesterday and notice on Yahoo Personals that they had a new Dating Guide out. This one seems to be fairly good and contains lots of info on dealing with relationships and on how to end them successfully.
According to a Yahoo Personals Poll, 30% of people (who responded) reassess their dating relationships as part of their New Years Resolution. So to help out in this "Break-Up Season", Yahoo has put together a Break-Up Survival Guide that includes tips on how to cope with the aftermath, what to do with cheaters and messages from others dealing with breakups
If you would like to read the survival guide visit it, here. |

Wow I have come across a fair number of new niche dating sites lately. They don't have many members and have not been around long enough to recommend so I will not mention their names. Some of the niches include:
- Sugar Daddies (Rich People)
- Shy Singles
- Singles with STDs
- Single Geeks
- People with Handicaps
- Truckers
- ... and the list goes on ...
It should be interesting to see if these niche sites pan out. Some of them I fine are not broad enough and will not attract enough members to become successful. I guess only time will tell. |
